For Parents

Tips for your child:
As a parent, we always want what is best for our children.  At this time of the year, it is important for our children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing to feel like they have the opportunity to talk with Santa and ask him for their wishes, just like any other child.  There a several opportunities that they can talk with Santa themselves:
-Signing with Santa in Bowling Green--they can sign with Santa personally.
- www.emailsanta.com --Children can email Santa and Santa will respond to them with a letter.
- http://www.northpole.com/ --Activities for Children and Parents to help children get in the Christmas spirit

There are many things out there that can help children connect to Christmas.  Most of all, children need their parents' attention and love.  Reading with them, talking to them and spending quality time together will teach them the most important lessons in life, no matter the time of year.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Parents of children with hearing losses often feel alone.  Highland has established a bi-monthly meeting for parents, where they can come together and talk about their children's successes and struggles openly with each other.  No one else knows what individual families go through when their child has a hearing loss or disability, but these parents are the closest people who do have an idea of what each other feel.

Each meeting has a topic of discussion that focuses on helping parents deal with struggles their child may face, help teach parents how to be better advocates for their children and help them with worries that they may have about their children's future.

This meeting is not only open to parents of children that attend Highland, it is open to the surrounding counties and schools.  Parents, teachers, audiologists, deaf adults, all are invited to attend our meetings.
